At Toco Labs ("we", "us", "our"), we believe your thoughts belong to you. Afterthought is designed to be private and offline-first. We do not sell customer data, and we do not store customer notes, recordings, or transcriptions on Toco Labs servers.
1. Data Collection and Storage
Afterthought is a local-first application. Your data stays on your Apple Watch, iPhone, and your own connected services.
- Voice recordings: Audio is recorded and stored on your Apple Watch and iPhone. We do not upload raw audio to Toco Labs servers.
- Transcriptions and classifications: Processing runs on-device, or through provider connections you configure. Toco Labs does not retain customer content.
- Syncing: Device-to-device sync is handled through Apple services under your Apple account. Toco Labs does not host this data.
2. Third-Party Integrations
Afterthought can send your data to services you connect. This transfer is initiated by your configuration in the app.
- Apple ecosystem: Apple Notes, Apple Reminders, Apple Calendar, Apple Music, Apple Journal, and Apple Shortcuts.
- External services: Notion, Todoist, Slack, Obsidian, and Day One.
After data is sent to those services, it is governed by each provider's privacy policy and terms.
3. Subscription Data
Afterthought Pro payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store payment card details.
4. Limitation of Liability

Afterthought is a productivity tool and is not intended as a mission-critical archival system.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Toco Labs is not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including loss of data, profits, goodwill, or use.
We do not guarantee syncing is uninterrupted or error-free. Syncing across devices and third-party APIs has inherent risk of data loss due to network failures, API changes, or device errors.
5. Context Tagging and Location
If you enable Location Services, recordings may include location context. This context is stored with your note on your devices and is not used by Toco Labs for tracking or aggregation.
